THE BOMB BLAST

The BOMB Archive

ABOUT

OVER 800 INTERVIEWS FROM THE LAST QUARTER CENTURY!

For 26 years and running, BOMB’s mission has remained intact: To promote an understanding and appreciation of the arts through conversations about the arts, by the people who make the arts. Focusing on ideas rather than personalities, BOMB interviews delve into discussions of process and aesthetics, allowing for the emergence of complex and varied positions on artmaking and life. These interviews are primary documents of American cultural history.

BOMB’s Archives are of such cultural significance that they have twice been awarded NEA Heritage and Preservation Grants. In 2005, Columbia University acquired the hard copies of the BOMB Archive—including audio tapes, marginalia, and multiple edits of interviews—for their Rare Book & Manuscript Library, where they will be accessible to students and scholars worldwide, a true testament to BOMB’s legacy. We thank Columbia University for their support in this joint venture.

The BOMB Online Archive is made possible in part with support from Eric Fischl, The Andy Warhol Arts Writing Initiative, and the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency. The new website and archive would not be possible without their generosity.

We are constantly building BOMB’s Online Archive and adding new enhancements to assist you:

• Use the search field in the upper right corner by entering an artist’s name or keyword.

• Peruse the Interviews and Authors links in the left navigation bar to find the artist and article you are looking for.

• Search by category topic using the horizontal navigation bar above.

• Browse by issue number for older content using our Back Issues.

• Read selected new articles from the Current Issue.

Keep checking back in weeks to come for more features that will improve BOMB’s Online Archive, making it an ideal tool for students, scholars, and readers everywhere.
